Ona gwum Ike oge obula m'tinyere DSTV mu were na afu Yoruba na Hausa channel mana onweghi channel aya si no nke Ndigbo. Tufiakwa!!!Why is there no dedicated Igbo channel on DSTV like they do for other tribes? Is this tribalism on the part of the South Africans or on the part of Multichoice Nigeria which seems to be headed by a Yoruba person?I know that there are quite a lot of Igbo movies that are being produced even though they may not be best sellers like the English ones that are still produced by msotly Igbo producers and so I'm just wondering why Multichoice or DSTV not go ahead and get the rights for these movies and show them on DSTV.I know that Ndigbo contribute in no small way to the large customer base which DSTV has in Nigeria and DSTV would indeed feel the impact if all these Igbo people simply decide to boycott renewing their DSTV subscription just for 1 month.Does it make sense to keep supporting a business that systematically sidelines Igbo creativity while at the same time supports that of other tribes?I don't hate Yoruba channels or Hausa channels but I do admire them and their eagerness to keep their language alive but I don't really feel much connection to them the same way I feel when watching Igbo movies.I've watched quite a number of Igbo movies and you'd get to see a lot of them in much greater quantity when you go across the Niger in places like Anambra and Imo. Igbo movies are not hard to find once you get to the video markets.
When we young ones used to hear of the cry of marginalization being meted out to the Igbo race by people in authority such as in govt, public office, we used to think that it's often exaggerated but in reality and as one grow up, one finds out that it's true. There seems to be a systematic plan to hold down the Igbo race in most spheres of the Nigerian society and this omission of an Igbo channel by DSTV Nigeria seems to be a tip of the icebergNdgibo, we need to start reconsidering if we should continue doing business with companies and people who have little or no regard for the Igbo race within the Nigerian society and rather support Igbo businesses and initiatives since they'd at least have some regard for our race. Is it right for an Igbo person to keep doing business with a business that is clearly anti-Igbo?DSTV's marginalization of the Igbo race by denying them of an Igbo channel while at the same timed dishing channels out to Ndi Hausa na Ndi Yoruba is simply against the Igbo spirit and our forefathers would turn in their graves if they hear of this.
