Bikoni Gwanim ihe bu Dorobucci. It is the title of a recent song released by The Mavins, a group headed by talented Nigerian music producer Michael Collins a.k.a Don Jazzy and it features other popular artistes like Don-Jazzy, Tiwa Savage, D’Prince and others.

Actually Dorobocci doesn't mean anything in any Nigerian language but the Mavins have turned it into a Nigerian song. How far will Nigerian musicians go just to sell music? There is this growing production of gibberish or slang filled Nigerian songs that might not mean much in reality but has got good beats. I guess when musician are tired of singing the same old songs or saying the same old things they tend to move towards saying things which are a bit off the ground or alien just to attract attention. I guess a time normally comes in a life of people with people power when they would use their power to kind of create their own language. Whether such words will eventually turn out into a language or slang will depend on its popularity and time.

Does Dorobucci really mean anything in Igbo? Well, I don't think so although it might seem a bit like an Igbo word given that some of part of the words sound a bit Igbotic. The Bucci for instance seems like Buchi but it is not. We know that "Bu Chi" in Igbo translates to "is God" in English. An example is when someone says "Onye Buchi" meaning "Who is God" but the track didn't use "Bu Chi" since they specifically spelt it out as "bucci" which is a bit like Italian.

It seems this is another one of those gibberish but dance-able Nigerian songs that really don't have a specific meaning but just a slang they just want to use to sell their music such as Skelewu, Eminado, Alingo or Gobe. I guess they also sing this songs just to show they are unique and were the first to sing a particular song. Besides, it also allows their songs to be Googleable.

In the Dorobucci song, all the artistes tend to give a different meaning of what they understand the word to mean. According to Don Jazzy, Doro is heavy, skillful, bloody and has the biggest label we know of. To each of the artistes under Mavin Records, Dorobucci mean many different thing to the extent that any listener trying to really understand what it means might end up confused.

Dorobucci is you. Dorobucci is me. Dorobucci bu everything. There is no specific translation but it's just a great song you can listen and dance to.
