When it comes to elections, the Igbo vote is hugely significant. Ndigbo live in many places and in great numbers. In Igbo land, it is an overwhelming population and they form part of the bulk votes that decides what happens in Nigeria. After the 1960s, Igbo population has been spreading and they are said to be one of the largest and most influential ethnic groups from Nigeria.

Who will Ndigbo vote for? It is simple. Like every tribe that seeks to survive and progress, Igbo people would normally vote for people they believe will better protect their interests such as their economy, religion and society. Ndigbo would vote for people who would stand up for them or known to have stood up for them in their time of need and it would be very hard to forgive those who once threatened the Igbo way of life when it comes to politics.

Before the Biafran war in the 1960s, Igbo population was already significant but localized mostly within Nigeria and they were hardly any cities outside traditional Igbo land where the tribe has not spread to. However, after the civil war, the population has said to have spread even further to over 40 million worldwide. Nowadays, 21st century Ndigbo live within and outside Nigeria with significant populations in countries like the USA, UK, South Africa, China and other parts of Africa besides Nigeria. It is said that Ndigbo could make up a nation of their own in Africa and that if Biafra had succeeded, it would have become the richest nation in West Africa.

The Igbos have since seen the need to stay united in everything especially when it comes to taking political decisions as to who to vote for and who not to vote and so anyone who seeks Igbo blessing in any public election is most likely to get it if he is trusted and has Igbo interests at heart.

Giving someone your vote is like giving them the power to rule over you and your way of life. Ndigbo would not want to vote anyone they feel is insensitive to their way of life, their business or their economy. Infact it is much easier for an Igob man to vote for another Igbo man running for office rather than voting for someone from another tribe. An Igbo man is also more likely to vote for someone who shares the same religion he has rather than someone who doesn't.

Who is an Igbo person more likely to vote for?
Well he/she is more likely to vote for:
- An Igbo candidate
- A Christian: Because most Igbos are Christians
- A civilized person: Because most Igbos are civilized
- A capitalist: Because most Igbos are capitalists
- Conservatist: Because most Igbos are conservatists
